The squalid home of a woman from Launceston who was banned from keeping dogs for 10 years has been featured on Channel 5’s Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies.
The documentary series which follows the work of RSPCA officers, featured the home of Heather Green, 69, who appeared at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court earlier this year where she was convicted of causing the dogs unnecessary suffering.
During the episode, RSPCA inspector Lewis Taylor describes the sight of the poodles at Green’s Dockacre Road home as “bewildering”.
He added: “It was just an absolutely pitiful sight really. My heart just went out to them because they just looked like they had spent so long inside those cages. They just seemed absolutely petrified.”
When investigators attended the address, 21 dogs were found squashed together in five metal cages and six others were running loose in one room…
…She denied cruelty but was convicted by magistrates of causing them unnecessary suffering.
Green was sentenced to a six-week custodial sentence, suspended for one year, and banned from keeping dogs for 10 years.
